Program Information:
Spend a semester learning from some of the best faculty in Barcelona. On The Barcelona Semester you’ll soak up all that this cultural hub of the Mediterranean has to offer both inside and outside the classroom. Start getting excited about:
  • The most pristine white-sand beaches in Western Europe – Barcelona enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. Any time of the year is perfect for a visit to the beach!

  • Life in the cultural capital of the Mediterranean – Barcelona is home to more World Heritage sites than any other city in Europe. You will witness 2,000 years of architectural and cultural splendor. The numerous museums, churches, cathedrals, concert halls, the modern art of Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso, and the influential architecture of Antoni Gaudí and Mies van der Rohe make Barcelona an aesthetically appealing destination for visitors from all over the world.

  • Quality academics taught in English and Spanish – Electives are taught mostly in English, but we encourage you to take intensive Spanish-language classes. Study Spanish in Barcelona: this program is perfect for anyone, because the Spanish-language classes are offered for speakers of all levels and are tailored to meet your needs.

  • The city of Barcelona – The café culture, boutique shops, tapas restaurants, and world-famous nightlife are enough to keep you busy for a semester or a year.

  • Cultural activities and excursions are included – We will take you to a Catalan cooking class, a flamenco show, and the Spanish cinema. The program also includes two weekends trip in Spain. Possible trips: beautiful Costa Brava, magical Granada, or majestic Madrid so you'll have a full study abroad in Spain experience.
Academics:
The innovative, unique curriculum offered on Semester at Barcelona International College includes coursework in language, business, and the humanities. The courses focus on Barcelona, Spain, and the Mediterranean regions and are taught in English and Spanish. You will be studying with students from Spain and all over the world. Barcelona International College is located along the Mediterranean Sea coast where students have the chance to not only listen and speak Catalan and Spanish, but are also able to hear conversations in French, Portuguese, and an array of other languages from across Europe.  The College itself sits in the heart of the Eixample district of Barcelona, which is an area of the city that was constructed during the 19th- and 20th centuries in the Modernist style.  The location offers students a chance to use Spanish in everyday life, whether they are bartering for goods in a local market, or viewing Gaudi’s architecture, or meeting new friends in Miro’s park.

Student Life:
The Barcelona Semester at Barcelona International College (BIC) begins with airport pickup at the Barcelona International Airport by a CIS staff member and then drop-off at your accommodation site.  Semester at Barcelona International College is unique because of the hands-on activities, excursions, and assistance provided by our in-country site director.  From the moment you step off the plane, our site director will be your mentor and guide.  You’ll learn about life in Barcelona and at Spanish universities, the unique characteristics of Spain’s university system, and how to make the most of your time in Barcelona socially, culturally, and academically.
