Rome is home to numerous architectural wonders, and on our  Summer Architecture Studies in Rome program, you will spend 7 weeks there! The program takes place at the Pantheon Institute, whose windows open to the glorious exterior of the Pantheon. You’ll learn both in the classroom and out in the city. Start getting excited about:
  • Study architecture in Rome – If you’re not already convinced, once in Rome, you will quickly realize that it’s the ideal place to further your understanding and practice of architecture.
  • Central location – Summer Architecture Studies in Rome is located near the most revered piazzas (squares) in all of Rome, Piazza Navona and Piazza della Rotunda (Pantheon). Outside the doors of the Institute, you will also find the Trevi Fountain and the Campo dei Fiori.  
  • Extracurricular activities, student excursions, and social events – Summer Architecture Studies in Rome offers plenty of opportunities for more exposure to Italian life and culture. Activities include movie nights, cooking classes, gelato nights, theater nights, soccer matches, and wine tastings.  
  • Museums, monuments, and concerts galore – There’s a never-ending list of museums to visit, monuments to see, and concerts to attend. Spend the summer taking in everything you’ve read, seen, and dreamed about in history books: the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Cathedral, and the Pantheon.
  • A chance to live the motto “When in Rome, do as the Romans” – We encourage you to immerse yourself in the culture, engage in the day-to-day life of a Roman, and do as much as possible to truly get a taste of the Roman way of life when you spend your summer abroad in Italy.
  • A timeless, exciting city – Rome is characterized by open-air cafés, quaint outdoor markets, timeless monuments, and the juxtaposition of ancient and modern architecture. Get lost in the streets and find yourself in the vibrant rhythms of the city’s timeless beauty.
Academics:
Summer Architecture Studies in Rome is housed at the Pantheon Institute, which offers an innovative academic program with several curricular options. The Institute’s faculty are experts from American, Italian, and European universities—all dynamic professors who will engage you and challenge you to make your time abroad both an intellectual and a cultural experience. The Institute’s connections with the Vatican, the Italian Parliament, and other institutions ensure that you’ll get a close look at Italian life. You may choose one of two unique academic programs: the Curricular Concentration Programs or the Free Elective.

Student Life:
To help CIS students acclimate to their new surroundings, each term begins with a 3-day orientation. It not only includes sessions on academics, living in Rome, and health and safety issues, but also provides useful walking tours of the city to show you where to find everything you need. Don’t speak Italian? No problem; Italian-language workshops will help you get acclimated to street signs and common vocabulary while simultaneously teaching you useful phrases to use in day to day life as you begin to pick up the beautiful Italian Language. Throughout your stay, the on-site staff will continue to support you as you learn and grow through the culture of this beautiful city.

Besides having access to the Institute's facilities for academic and personal needs, you can easily explore the best of Rome. Lining the cobblestone streets that surround the Institute is a profusion of shops, restaurants and cafés, gelaterie, museums and monuments, piazzas and parks, lively markets, theaters, artisans’ workshops, wineries, and churches. Another great way to learn the city is to explore various neighborhoods “off the beaten path.” There truly is so much of Rome to explore, you’ll never run out of things to do. The city is filled with people who hail from hundreds of countries around the world, providing a stimulating mix of foods, languages, and cultures. The rhythm of Rome is undeniable: those who spend time here can’t help but be inspired by the city’s bustling, spirited energy.
