Program Information:
The University of Newcastle offers students the perfect combination of lifestyle and learning. Set in superb bushland (wooded land) and close to spectacular beaches, waterways, and forests, the university is well- known for its academic excellence and innovative teaching. Enjoy all of this and more:

  • Learn in the center of town - The main Callaghan campus lies about four miles from the center of the city of Newcastle on 345 acres - a site that has gained international recognition for practicing ecologically sustainable principles.
  • Enjoy modern facilities - For learning, you will find an array of libraries, computer centers, and a learning-assistance center. In terms of recreation, you will have access to the Sports Forum and Aquatic Center - complete with a pool, fitness center, and more.
  • Low-cost program in an awesome city - This is one of our most affordable programs in Australia and Newcastle boasts a laid-back atmosphere and casual lifestyle. It is the perfect place to study abroad!

Academics:
The average credit load will be between thirty to forty Newcastle "units" - three to four subjects (equivalent to twelve to sixteen U.S. credits). Each week you are expected to attend one large lecture and one or two smaller tutorial classes per subject. You can choose from subjects in a range of areas including Australian studies, business, creative arts, cultural studies, education, engineering, environmental science, health, and general sciences (biology, chemistry, physics).

Student Life:
During this program, you will take part in a four day orientation that will prepare you for the culture shock you might encounter. Use this opportunity to network with other CISabroad students that you will be studying alongside all semester. After this initial orientation, enjoy a week-long orientation at your university that will help you settle in and do well in your courses.

Highlights:

  • On and off-campus housing available
  • Study at a top-100 university in Australia
  • Lower cost of living compared to other cities
  • Enjoy CISabroad Adventure Orientation on top of university orientation
  • It is easy to meet both locals and other international students
