Program Information:
Semester in Florence is located at Florence University of the Arts, in the heart of the city with a fabulous location making all the great Florence sights easily accessible. With magnificent monuments such as the Ponte Vecchio and the Basilica of Santa Croce just minutes from school, you’ll never have to complain about your walk to class. You will enjoy small class sizes of 8–20 students and excellent courses taught by Italian and other European professors. With the exception of your Italian-language course, all courses are taught in English and there is an extensive variety to choose from. In terms of academics, FUA truly has it all:

  • Delicious Italian food - There will never be a shortage of delicious and authentic pasta, pizza, tiramisu, gelato and much more!
  • Art and history lover's paradise - Florence is home to world-renowned works of art and tons of museums and galleries. For those that love art and history, there will never be a dull moment!
  • Courses in your major - Take courses that apply to your major and transfer back to your home university. Or, take some electives to explore your interests.

Academics:
Semester in Florence, housed at Florence University of the Arts, offers 2 semesters, starting in September and February— which lines up nicely with the US academic calendar. You can select courses from the following departments: College of Liberal Arts, College of Fine and Visual Arts, College of Life Science, College of Environmental Studies and Human Services, College of Business and Economics, and College of Science, so you’ll certainly be able to find the courses you need. Plus, all courses, except for the Italian-language courses, are taught in English. Please note that all students studying in Florence for the semester must take at least one Italian language course.

FUA challenges its students to see beyond the beautiful art work that Florence has to offer and truly live in the city and experience everything it has to offer. This includes learning some of the language in order to truly interact with the culture and the people in the city. The institution is historically focused on humanities and looks at the past as a lens to understand principles of present day context. It is a rewarding academic experience!

Student Life:
We will help you every step of the way in getting acclimated to the culture of Florence. Upon arrival, you will receive an orientation that helps you navigate the city and the university. We will help you get settled into your accomodation and give you a chance to meet other CISabroad students with a variety of social activities and events.
