Program Information:
The program is set at Dublin City University (DCU), one of Ireland's newest universities. Voted the "Top Irish University" in 2004 by the Sunday Irish Times, DCU is home to more than 10,000 students from all over the world. When it comes to teaching and learning, you will find that DCU's academic system is loosely based upon the American system (unlike most other Irish universities). Enjoy living in Dublin, as well as the following:

  • Experiential learning - You will have "continual assessment" rather than only having one or two projects/presentations decide your entire grade. There is much more responsibility placed upon the student for learning the material than in the U.S.
  • Strong facilities - There are television and sound studios, computer labs, state-of-the-art science labs, and graphic design-facilities. You will be directly enrolled in classes at the University, giving you full integration into Irish academic life.
  • Earn college credit - Take 4-5 subjects a semester, which transfer back to your home university as 12-15 credits. Take electives or courses that pertain to your major.

Academics:
Study-abroad students are eligible to take classes across all academic areas at DCU. A normal course load is 4-5 subjects per semester, which translates roughly to 12-15 U.S. credits. The main subject areas available at DCU include: business, computer science, communication, journalism, economics, political studies, international relations, law, engineering, environmental sciences, sport science, health, nursing, and the sciences - biology, chemistry, physics, and biotechnology.

Student Life:
The DCU student union will be the central hub for all social events and activities. There are over 100 clubs and organizations that regularly meet in this state of the art facility. Enjoy the many pubs, cafes, book shops, and more that are housed here!

The city itself boasts only a million people, so it is the perfect size for a student. Explore the museums, stroll through Croke Park, watch a Gaelic football game, or enjoy the music scene of Ireland. There is no shortage of things to do in Dublin.

Highlights:

  • Enjoy many cultural excursions around Ireland
  • Live and study alongside the local Irish students
  • Access to great on-campus facilities
  • Study at a high-quality and progressive university
  • Meet students from all over the world
