Students will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of learning experiences from courses to research, co- and extra-curricular activities. This interdisciplinary, global program of studies is centered in the humanities, social sciences and sciences.
Structure
There are two options for completing the Certificate program:
Option 1:
Students must study in two different programs of The College of Global Studies, and one must be either the program in Tanzania or South Africa. Students are required to complete a minimum of 20 semester hour credits, including the capstone research project.
Option 2:
Students study at The College's program in Tanzania or South Africa for at least one semester. Students are required to complete a minimum of 20 semester hour credits, including the capstone research project. A total of 4 semester hours' credit of coursework in African Studies may be transferred from the student's home institution into the Certificate.
Requirements
Any student who qualifies to study on a program through The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University is eligible to apply for the certificate program in African Studies. Application for the certificate is to be made to The College of Global Studies.
Students will earn an Arcadia University Certificate in African Studies by:
completing 20 semester hours of credit in interdisciplinary African Studies
maintaining a GPA of 2.0 or higher in all courses and academic experiences.
preparing a capstone research project (a 5-6,000 word paper or presentation of equivalent work) along with an oral presentation on African Studies, for 4 semester hours of credit.
