About the City
About Alicante
With a population approaching 350,000, Alicante is a thriving Spanish city. Located on the Mediterranean coast, Alicante is an inviting place for students to begin their exploration of Spain or continue a previous journey. In recent times, Alicante has experienced a development boom and rapid population growth. Students will see modern architecture alongside historic buildings, and shopping malls next to centuries-old open-air markets. Although fast becoming a cosmopolitan and multicultural city, Alicante retains a distinct Spanish flavor.
About Naples
Located an hour on the high speed train from Rome, with the ancient Greco-Roman city still visible in its layout, Naples is part of a well-preserved ancient cultural area including Pompeii, Herculaneum, Cumae, and Paestum. Its history and position at the heart of the Mediterranean have made Naples a city with many different layers of civilization, one that has absorbed different cultures and peoples. The central historical district, where students live and study, has been renovated and revitalized in recent years.
Where You'll Study
Alicante
The Universidad de Alicante is one of Spain’s newest universities and is located three miles outside the city of Alicante. Established to serve the higher education needs of the province of Alicante, the Universidad de Alicante offers its 35,000 students the benefits of a modern campus with an international atmosphere. The CIEE Study Center is located next to the Faculty of Education and one of the residence halls on the northwest extension of the main campus in San Vicente; this location provides students direct access to University facilities.
Naples
Founded in 1732 by a missionary returned from China, the Università degli Studi di Napoli “L’Orientale” (University of Naples “L’Orientale," or just“the Orientale”) is based in historic central Naples. The CIEE Study Center and classes are located in a University building in central Naples.

In Naples, all courses include a combination of lectures, active participation, guest speakers, and guided site visits. Students visit organizations related to the themes covered in the course and are asked to give a presentation of their findings.
