Egyptology (Semester/Academic Year)

This Semester & Academic Year program offers students the opportunity to focus on the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt while living in and breathing-in contemporary Cairo. As "Um al-Dunya," or "Mother of the World," Cairo gives Egyptology students a unique look into the heart of both the current and ancient Arab world. Students enroll in 15 credits per semester. Classes consist of three Egyptology specific courses, one course from the AMIDEAST Egypt Semester Program class options, and one Egyptian Arabic course. Classes are held at AMIDEAST's facilities in the bustling neighborhood of Dokki, located on the west bank of the Nile. AMIDEAST's Egyptology and Middle East Studies courses are taught by some of Egypt's leading faculty.

Students in the program may enroll in the Egyptology In Practice Course for a placement with the Egyptian Museum, and other key organizations. Egyptology students participate in program-organized excursions both in and outside of Cairo to visit major attractions and historical sites in Egypt. The excursions are coordinated by AMIDEAST/Egypt in conjunction with the program's academic staff and are led by a member of the faculty. Organized activities are combined with limited free time, allowing students to explore independently within a safe and structured framework. Students will be given the schedule of these excursions during orientation. Excursions may include visits to: -Pyramids, Egyptian Museum, Citadel, Old Cairo and other major sites in and around Cairo -Alexandria -Upper Egypt
